Description: Item DetailsFrench Empire Ormolu Mantel Clock, circa 1820 Signed Japy Freres Offers Welcome A very fine example of a French Empire fire gilded ormolu clock depicting the allegory of nature featuring a standing lady. The figure elegantly stands on the clocks drum case whilst resting on a tree trunk whilst focusing. The figure of the lady has been finely chiselled; she has very realistic features; pay particular attention to the face, hands and finger nails. Various naturalistic attributes decorate the side elevation of the clock including foliage and a floral garland. The maidens hat hangs delicately on a branch that is issued from the trunk. The clock demonstrates the finest quality of craftsmanship. To the front elevation, the clock features a white enamel dial with black hand painted Roman numerals and outer chapter indicating minute marks. The dial is encased within an engine turned ormolu rim. This fine clock stands upon a rectangular base with bracket fee and swept plinth. The front elevation of the base features repoussé work with scroll work. The clock features an 8 day twin train silk suspended mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell and is regulated by a countwheel. The mechanism is stamped by one of the most renowned, awarded and important 19th century clock makers, Japy Freres. The pendulum and winding key are present. Approximate dimensions: 43 cm high x 33 cm wide Approximate weight: 5 KG Condition: Overall, the clock is in good working condition. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a very good colour. Please note, whilst the clock currently works, during transport, all clocks are moved around a lot, and therefore, they may require setting up upon receiving them as well as the possibility of requiring professional assistance or a service as they can get 'stuck'. There is no guarantee that the clock will work smoothly after it has been transported. Please study the pictures and ask any questions that you may have.
