Description: I am continuing the long process of selling off folk art, textiles, and books from three different collector estates. Due to the volume of items, my descriptions are shorter that usual, but my commitment to accurately representing everything that I sell remains. Please review all of the photos before bidding. If you have any questions about any of the items for sale, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll be more than happy to answer in more detail directly. This auction is for an antique handmade tablecloth with ancient pagan embroidered motifs. I acquired it at an antique market in Europe, but I do not know the origin. I am confident that the motifs are of old Slavic influence and thus I suspect the textile comes from either Ukraine, Belarus or Russia. The tablecloth has seen decades of use (possibly actually a bed cover earlier) and there are some holes, damages to the embroidery, and a missing section of trim along one edge. There are also a few very faint stains. The cloth was in much worse condition when I acquired it, but I have soaked it, gently washed it by hand and let it dry in the sun so much of the previous staining has come clean. The remaining faint stains might come out with subsequent soaking, but overall I think it now looks quite nice. The textile measures 56" x 63". A unique piece for your collection.
