Description: 19thC Full Loom Width Antique Pennsylvania Jacquard Coverlet American Folk Art Dated 1853. A rarely found pattern for this Pennsylvania Coverlet. An elaborate design filled with many traditional Pennsylvania Dutch (German) motifs overall. The center of the coverlet has an 8-pointed star encircled by harps and oak leaves. A large rectangle with a flower pot at the top and bottom encases these motifs. The outer bands have tulips and roses, harps and leaves with cornucopia. The very corners hold stylized hearts. Dated at the bottom 1853. This antique Pennsylvania jacquard coverlet has been stored away for many years and is still in very good condition. It has a beautiful combination of red, blue and green wool for the weft and a natural cotton warp. It is reversible. There is self fringe along both sides and an applied fringe across the bottom. It has a hand turned hem at the top. The fibers retain good body, not at all limp or worn or thin. Good and heavy, no holes or stains. It is not perfect, it has some small loss of fringe as shown in the full image, and also a tiny area of loss of the red wool on the center star. This is not a hole and does not come thru to the reverse. Size: 76" x 86" Plus 2-1/2" fringe on sides and across bottom.
