Description: Up For Sale: Antique Computing Cheese Cutter Co. Cheese Wheel Cutter Deli Slicer Tool Anderson IND. USA Patent filed AUG 12, 1903 - Patented May, 23, 1905 by Frank P. Dunn of Computing Cheese Cutter Company, Anderson Indiana, U.S.A. - This example, circa 1905 - 1910 was originally sold by distributor 'Moore Butcher Supply' of 136 W. 2nd South, Salt Lake City, Utah - This company sold supplies and equipment to Delis, Butcher shops, Lockers, and Packers. The Moore Butcher Supply sticker is displayed on the left-side handle - These devices were a staple in delicatessens in the late 19th and early 20th century - Workers would place a cheese wheel on the wood cutting block and operate the measuring dial handle to cut precise amounts of cheese for the customer - This example retains the pointed metal blades built into the cutting board, used to secure the cheese wheel - The name plate on the front of the dial reads; "COMPUTING/ CHEESE CUTTER CO./ --INCORPORATED--/ ->PATENTED- ANDERSON, IND./ U.S.A." - the dial retains a fixed plate which bares graduated numbers for measurement - This device is truly robust; produced with cast iron, steel, and wood - It operates by way of a series of gears and spring steel which are all present - Attached to the handle is a large flat butcher knife style blade - the handle is attached to frame with a large steel pin and rotates up and down for slicing the cheese.Condition: Overall condition as seen in photos; Mechanically excellent, all moving parts operate as designed - The frame, blade handle, and cutting board gear have a rich Navy Blue painted finish, the handle grip displays a gold/brass-tone finish, other metal surfaces are in-the-white (unfinished), and the number and name plates are polished - Most markings and clear and legible - The metalwork exhibits honest handling wear, scattered marring, and light freckling - the blade's edge is excellent, displaying a small bend and minor nick - The woodwork displays typical scarring, staining, and patina, no significant wear or abuse. This is a unique and rare find, especially in this condition - Perfect antique decor piece for farmhouse style homes, vintage style delis, butcher-shops, or restaurants with that certain rustic flare. Weighing around 26 lbs and measuring approximately 20" x 18" - would be a perfect decor piece for a wall niche inside an Italian restaurant.
