Description: This style of chair is known as "official's hat chair" because the projections over the rear stiles resemble the knobs on the black hats once worn by high-ranking administrators in Ming Dynasty. These high back chairs are handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Intricate carvings of traditional Chinese design motif decorate the back splat of the chairs. Both the arms and the back splats of the chairs are crafted with deep curves. The front openings underneath the seats are uniquely carved into "arch" shape. Made from core of Elm Wood, the chairs are very solid and kept in excellent condition. Original patina and wear.
