Description: This is a extremely well made American coin silver serving spoon, probably for fruits, berries, or desserts. Repousse bowl of Pineapple, pomegranate, Pear, grapes, Apple and Plum. Twisted stem (extremely popular in 1870’s, but this is earlier). No maker’s marks evident. Scalloped edge. Stylistically (font & engraving), I place this from 1830 - 1850. Engraved with family last name "Bigelow". Since American silver was not generally marked for silver content (sterling = 92.5% / coin = 90%) until 1872, the absence of word "sterling" or "coin silver" is not an issue. Condition: Excellent giftable condition. Engraved name as photographed and described. No reportable issues, such as flat spots, nicks, dents, pings, dings, bashes, unusual scratches, bends, monogram removals, or other blemishes. Faint surface abrasions create patina consistent with age and use. Recent thorough hand polish. Since unmarked, have thorough looked for any indication of base metal showing through which would indicate plating -- none noted. Acid tested to confirm silver content.
