Description: Lovely antique Austrian Compact with Powder and a mirror. The case features silver overlay, possibly 800 or sterling. I didn’t find a mark, but these types of compacts often marked with sterling. The case features blue enamel and floral overlay with enamels arrangement in the middle. Blue enamel on the underside. Gold wash on the interior. I think this particular compact is an earlier piece, made around first quarter on 1900s. It is marked with “Austria”. Items of later production would be marked with “Made in Austria”. This is also likely to be the reason that silver content is not marked. The interior: - Mirror does not have cracks, but has wear/scratched/cloudy areas, use marks and scratches. Please see pictures. There is some original powder left inside. Condition: - Blue enamel has some dark areas, scratches and other imperfections, please see pictures. - patina on the silver. - rough areas along the rims. - use related marks and scratches throughout on the case, some loss to gilt. Wear to enamel. Measures about 2.5” wide across sides (or 2.75” across corners” Please study pictures closely for more details. I posted many pictures and close-ups to allow my customers to study the condition of this item.
