Description: Antique Art Deco Sterling Silver Vermeil Rope GARNET & Onyx Egg Pendant 925, Very Good Condition Note: The chain shown is not included but is shown in one photo to give you an idea of how this pendant looks on a necklace.Design: Made in China or possibly Russia, circa 1960, this gorgeous Art Deco style egg pendant is almost one inch long (7/8ths inch to be exact, without bale) and features a gorgeous big bezel-set garnet and vermeil rope accents draped all over the egg. In over 20 years of selling egg pendants, I've only seen this type a few times but it is a classic beautiful design. The bale is stamped 925 on the top. Superb quality and no damage other than expected light wear due to age. It is a layer of gold permanently fused to solid sterling silver, precious metal on precious metal. It will be stamped 925 for sterling. Also called gilded silver or gilt, it is a durable product that can be worn daily and passed on to the next generation. The gold won’t rub off or flake off. Gold-filled (GF) and gold-plated (GP) is a plating of gold on a base metal, like copper. The former is more durable than the latter, but vermeil is much better than both.
