Description: Here's a beautiful deep amethyst glass antique fly trap or wasp catcher with wire hanger handle....VC emblem on front in circle. Machine made....round with deep sunken opening in base.....opening in top with cork stopper....4 3/4"tall..........Excellent condition with no chips or damage of any kind. It has the original wire hanger with a loop missing on one side. The wire can easily be replaced. These were popular in the 1800s and early 1900 era to catch wasps, flies, bees and unwanted flying insects. Sugar water was put inside the bottom trough to attract the insects......the wasps or flies would fly up through the bottom opening and be trapped. They could then be emptied out the top.
