Description: Offered is this antique document dated May 8, 1861, a notary public document protesting a promissory note refusal involving the Bank of New York. The notary public's name is Alexander Robertson Rodgers, from New York City. The note seems to have been from someone named Bowie for someone named Bliss. Most of the form is pre-printed, but the date and the bank name have been written in by hand and Rodgers has signed the document. There is an impressed seal at the top (see photo #4) and the notary seal impressed at the bottom, more difficult to see. Printed on the back is the name of the law firm, Rodgers and Woodman, with the names of Bowie and Bliss and the date hand-written in. The document is approx. 9 7/8" x 7 1/2". It is in very good condition for its age, with no holes and only a couple of very short tears along the fold lines. The main side is clean and clear except for one brownish area on the left, where there may have once been a document stamp. There is some light foxing on the other side.
