Description: Rare and precious memento c.1770-90s of Louis XVIII, brother of ill-fated French King Louis XVI - a hand painted tiny portrait miniature in excellent condition and all original along with a flower painting housed in the backside of the locket pendant, signifying alliance with the Royals in the time of the French Revolution. The 3 cover glasses, slightly concave, would be greatly improved by an interior cleaning, but I don't see how to easily open the locket. You'd have a very clean clear portrait of the King once the convex glass is carefully cleaned and then reset. The pendant or locket is 18k gold, as is the bale. A superb little treasure of importance in time. Full measurements noted on photos. Very good to excellent condition for age and type - just needing the internal side of the cover glass cleaned to bring it to excellent. I'm sure a goldsmith could be of help. The locket or pendant is nearly 1/4" thick/depth, and just over 1" in diameter. The painting is amazing for such a tiny painting. Some age/wear to the 18k gold, no breaks to the 2 convex cover glass panels. RARE!
