Description: This stunning antique claret wine jug exudes the elegance of the Austro-Hungarian Art Nouveau style. Crafted from silverplate, this piece features intricate patterns and a beautiful zipper and panel glass design. Perfect for any collector or enthusiast of Victorian-era antiques, this jug is sure to add a touch of class to any collection. Its age, dating back to the late 19th century, only adds to its allure. Ideal for display or use, this piece is a must-have for any lover of Art Nouveau design. Rare antique claret jug consists of silver plate mounts to the top forming the collar, handle and hinged lid with repousse metalwork of floral and foliate design in the typical Art Nouveau style. My research shows this was made in Central Europe during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, 1867–1918 period. Likely the last part of the 19th century. It’s blown and ground glass with silver fitting and handle. The glass pattern has alternating zipper and panel (fluted) design. No cleaning has been done by me. It is “as found”. Note the hinged lid is starting to bend/cut the metal on the collar. See photo. There are a few flea bites on the zipper design. Very hard to see and photograph. No other chips or cracks. No markings found. Weighing 2 lbs. 9 oz. Height 14” tall. Austria-Hungary, also referred to as the Austro-Hungarian Empire or the Dual Monarchy, was a multi-national constitutional monarchy in Central Europe between 1867 and 1918. -243195
