Description: Images one through three show details of two of my flowering-sized stock specimen plants in cultivation in California. The plant for sale is a recently-transplanted basal division of a F2 stock plant, 14" tall overall, and is shown in the fourth and fifth images, planted in a bark + perlite + tree fern + charcoal substrate in a 3.5” rose pot. Anthurium marmoratum f. Velutina is an exceptional selection grown from a wild-origin seed batch sent to Australia from a private collector in the mid-2000s and then propagated on by some friends. Since I also received different lots of A. marmoratum-type seed from the same individual at the same time while in Guatemala, I know there is some question as to whether the original seed was collected in southern Colombia or northern Ecuador. In any case, in my opinion f. “Velutina” (the original source’s denomination) is among the finest of the true A. marmoratum-type group and has a particularly striking and complex "dazzle" contrast vein pattern as they mature. Somewhat slower growing and definitely smaller overall at maturity than my other marmo specimens, it is otherwise an easy grower and very temperature tolerant, although it prefers warmth. Besides the distinctive velvety overall aspect, this ecotype has lightly quilted and very velvety leaves once past the juvenile stage. Offered plants are grown from divisions of select, seed-grown plants I have been propagating over the past several years. This is a great opportunity to acquire a cherry-picked, domestic source, artificially propagated, exceptional Anthurium marmoratum. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
