Ann West was very proficient in watercolors and her acrylic paintings are rarely encountered.The painting on Masonite board is signed "Ann West” at the lower left corner.The Masonite board measures 11” in width and 12” in height.The acrylic painting by Ann West is presented in very good vintage condition. Anna Mae Caravella West (1927-2007)Ann West was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later worked with her father in Houston, Texas as a hairdresser. She continued her profession in Chicago, Minneapolis, and finally Corpus Christi, retiring in 1972 after 28 years of service. Before retiring from the business of dressing hair, she studied oil painting and continued her study of art with Dot Turner who taught her watercolor. She became very proficient in watercolor and as a result many friends and acquaintances asked her to teach watercolor classes. She started teaching in 1973 and continued for 29 years. She taught in the art studio in her home. She won numerous awards locally for the art she exhibited in art shows. She also gave many watercolor demonstrations for local art groups and was a judge for many exhibits. She was a member of the Watercolor Society of South Texas and the Art Center of Corpus Christi. She retired a second time in 2001 after working a total of 57 years as both a hair dresser and art teacher.
