Description: I bought this Fire HD 8 (8th generation) in 2019. I have barely used it, though that doesn’t seem compatible with the worn spots on the back side. It was in a flip-open case for most of its time with me. The back wasn't even exposed. So that's a mystery. The unit has been factory reset: you will get the new purchaser’s setup experience. Before doing the reset, I upgraded to Fire OS 7. ChatGPT assured me that the reset would not revert the device to the Fire OS 6 operating system. I didn’t test battery life. The original advertising said 10 hours, but this battery is approaching six years old. My most recent use – one of my very few significant uses of this product – had me reading articles on it during a half-day of traveling, about a month ago. I didn’t count, but I’d guess I got four or five hours of use (in airplane mode) before it ran down. No guarantees – as I say, I wasn’t keeping track – but it did run long enough to let me read or skim a large number of previously downloaded news articles. Pardon the reflections in the glass, in my photos of the front. The only problem with the front is a small but real scratch in the bezel, i.e., the black frame, at the bottom of the front side. That didn't come out in my pics, but it's there.
