Description: Duncan McAlpine Comics Amazing Spider-Man #121, CGC F/VF 7.0, Jun 1973 One of THE most important Bronze Age Spider-Man comics. Bright cover colours and square cut with no cover wraparound. Bright clean back cover. Near perfect Off White/White pages. The CGC case comes with a protective plastic sleeve. The eye-appeal is outstanding: no ‘white spine’ showing on the left-hand side; the Marvel banner perfectly horizontal at the top (slanting in many copies); distributor date stamped on the back Mar 13 – the day it was first shipped for sale in the USA. (We use a high-quality scanner to reproduce the best colour-match of our comics and avoid distortion. Your monitor settings may affect the brightness of our photos and the flash glare on some CGC scans is unavoidable.) All comics are bagged and boarded (a handful are not but this will be stated in the listing). See our reviews for the quality of our secure packaging and quick despatch times (we state 3 days as I have another life but it is often quicker!). We ask for a contribution only towards full UK Royal Mail postage. Please invoice for combined shipping on multiple purchases or for First Class. The classic death of Gwen Stacy at the hands of the Green Goblin. I remember seeing this comic advertised in the UK fan press at the time (Comic Media News in particular) and the frenzy at the Camden London comic mart in March to get a copy as we knew it wouldn’t be available in the newsagents in June. Advance imports were up to 35p at the time. This issue was selling at up to £10. An early example of comics’ speculation! Interestingly at the time it was unclear as to whether The Green Goblin had previously killed Gwen Stacy (it’s what I thought at the time in common with anyone else I talked to as an excited 13 year old). It was explained in the letters page in issue #125 that Gwen was unconscious and that it was the whiplash that broke her neck. Gerry Conway was only 21 when he wrote this storyline. Credit to Stan Lee for recognising precocious talent.
