Description: Scarce tobacco silk featuring a horse and jockey. Measures 9" by 4 1/8". Has small corner tears as shown. Has light yellowing and stains as shown. The red has run slightly as shown too. The black behind it is a piece of thick paper that is not attached to it. The line running from top to bottom is a wrinkle. Please look through all photos for best description. This is a wonderful piece of antique art and tobacco advertising. Will be packed well and in a box with insurance. A bit of information shared to me by another great Ebayer. The horse was called Iroquois and the jacket was Fred Archer and together they won the English Derby in 1881. The owner was the tobacco man Lorillard - the first American to have won that race. It was made by the Thomas Stevens company in Coventry, England - hence a Stevengraph. For the commissioned advertisement by Richmond Tobacco the woven words were added (and a printed back label) and produced in two sizes.
