He lived abroad since 1900, mainly in Salonica and Athens. He was honored with the 3. Prize of the ducats´ exhibition and was a member of the Finnish Art Association. Longer stays in Paris and Florence followed. Especially his portraits and figure are well-known. Works by Barkoff are represented i.a. in the Ateneum in Helsinki.
