Description: Original handwritten note with self portrait by Al Hirschfeld sent to my grandmother in 1949. I assume she must have written to him around the time she was studying at Cooper Union in NYC. It was in one of her many scrapbooks. She grew up in Brooklyn where she was a child model who once won a Shirley Temple lookalike contest. She studied art in her teens and eventually became an established artist herself, living and creating on a small island off the coast of Washington state. Note reads: "Dear Miss Ashton - Thanks for your interest in my work - Sincerely HIRSCHFELD" Measures 6.75" by 5". Ink on paper. Has been lightly attached on left and right side to a piece of construction paper. Signed and dated 3/3/49. Some light waving and a center crease where it was folded in the envelope. Has been kept protected in plastic since I discovered it 6 months ago. Would ship via USPS Priority Mail with tracking, packed with care between boards. Please feel free to write me with any questions you may have. Thank you, and have a wonderful day! - Nikki
