Description: The Akai Model GX-77 (1979-1980) compact auto reverse is an audiophile reel-to-reel stereo tape deck. GX-77 is the last compact reel to reel of Akai ever made - as direct competition to Pioneer RT-707. The Akai Compact Model GX-77 only accepts 7 inch or smaller reels by design. The use of light-weight plastic reels strongly recommended. NOTE: NO heavy metal reels with sticky and/or degraded tapes should be used on this compact type of reel-to-reel player - or the forward and rewind operation would be interrupted, slowed down or stopped near the end of the tape. This is a known design limitation of this model. Most of Audiophiles remedy this issue by taken off a couple yards of tape out of the reel to reduce the weight and keep the tape pull torque of take up reel strong until the end tape. The listing is for tape deck unit only as seen on the listing photos. NO reel, No tape, No remote, No manual, No audio cables or other accessories included. You have to pay extra for reels and tapes if needed. Contact seller for more information. The GX-77 tape decks features Akai's GX special glass heads. As per their advertisements at the time, you could run an Akai GX series deck 24/7 for 17.5 years before they wore out. That’s 150,000 hours, as compared to a more typical 3000-4000 hour life span of steel reel to reel heads of the 70-80's. The unit is in good cosmetic condition with hairline scratches, small dings, dis-colored spots, worn-out corners and edges... See photos for details. This unit has been fully shop inspected, tested and found in good working condition before anti-tamper stickers were placed. Serial number also has been recorded. This unit has 30-day guarantee for technical and shipping errors. All tape play and record from line in and microphone are tested. All motors, tire and tape transport mechanism are fully serviced and inspected for proper operation before listing. Sound outputs are strong and clear from both headphone and line-out. Play head and metal parts on the tape track are demagnetized and cleaned. The deck also tested for tape tracking and reading on both play/record directions. Due to the fact that most tape reels you have or available on the market right now were more than 40 years old - we would recommend you record music (or tape remaster) and play back reel tape on the same machine. The use of degraded pre-record music reel tapes would be used with consideration. The frequently cleaning the play head each use would be needed to ensure the best sound quality also. No return if due to buyer mishandling or damage because of lack of proper operational knowledge - and above all we are watching out for the part swappers if anti-tamper stickers on the unit removed or broke off. Serial number is recorded. Operating 110V-240V 50/60Hz. Total 50W If you have never owned a reel to reel deck before, please notify the seller before buying.
