Description: Manny's Vintage Mintage presents THE MAGAZINE FOR SALE HERE is AFTER HOURS #1A 'Gentleman's Magazine' published by JAMES WARREN/JAY PUBLISHING; 195748 pages including covers; 8.5 x 11" Contents include a BETTIE PAGE centerfold pinup, as well as photo spreads for other females like BOBBI STEVENS, and articles, columns, humour, and short fiction. VERY RARE IN ANY CONDITION, the condition of this item Very Good +/Fine AFTER HOURS was James Warren's first publishing venture, an also-ran imitator jumping in on the 'gentleman's magazine' market created/exploded by Playboy. The last issue of After Hours (#4), is known to many fans as Famous Monsters Of Filmland #0. Warren had to cease publication of his gentleman's magazine After Hours after #4 due to legal problems in Philadelphia, but AH #4 did so much better biz because of Ackerman's monster/fantasy film content that it was decided to instead publish a one-shot mag called... FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND #1 (1958), that was a runaway sellout, and not only led to an immediate second printing of #1 to meet demand, but to the continuance of the title as a regular periodical. The rest is history! Warren followed up with other titles like Spacemen, Screen Thrills Illustrated, Help!, Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella, 1984/1994, et al, over the next 25 years.
