Aechmea caudata - 50 seeds

Description: This listing is for 50 seeds of Aechmea caudata. Brightly coloured flowers of yellow and orange. I also sell the ever popular Aechmea gamosepala which has pink and blue flowers. Unlike A.gamosepala however, this is a subtropical plant and will not tolerate frosts. Seeds collected from Kerikeri in the ‘winterless north’. They prefer filtered sun, humid conditions and a sheltered aspect but will grow in full sun. They also can be enjoyed as an indoor plant if you live in a location that experiences frosts.The strap-like leaves are leathery and have sharp spines along the leaf margin. They are very sharp so take care when handling them, gloves are recommended. They do make a good border plant but because of the sharp leaves are not the best choice for a garden with young children.The leaves grow in a rosette formation creating a well in the centre that collects and stores water for the plant. When watering these always ensure that the well is filled with water as most of the water is absorbed through modified cells at the base of these leaves. You have the option of sending via regular air mail or expedited shipping. If you need a tracking number, please choose the expedited shipping option even though it is more expensive, because if you opt for regular mail, I cannot provide tracking. If your address is in South America, Arabian Peninsula or Africa you MUST choose expedited shipping. Normal mail often does not seem to get to these destinations from New Zealand.
