His face is etched with lines of resilience and kuliny-kuliny (deep thoughts), each mark telling a story of struggle, survival, and unyielding pride. The sharp, jagged teeth represent his no-nonsense attitude, while the dots and patterns radiating around him symbolise the flow of jukurrpa (Dreaming) that still courses through his being, anchoring him to the puli puli (sacred stones) and kapi kapi (waterholes) of the Pilbara. Despite his cranky exterior, the painting invites you to look closer, to see the wisdom and deep care he carries for his walytja (family) and culture. He might grumble and growl, but his spirit stands as a guardian, fiercely protecting the ways of the Martu. 57 x 112 cm includes a 5cm gutter.The painting is un-stretched and unframed, and it will be rolled up and posted in a mailing tube.
