It was issued by the Air Force History & Museums Program in 1996. This publication chronicles the role of the US Air Force from the early 1960s until the Allied dis-involvement in 1972. The US actually first became involved in Viet Nam in the mid-1950s, providing support, equipment and munitions to the French in their failed effort to maintain control of its territories in Southeast Asia. Direct US involvement began in 1965, following an attack that killed members of a US regiment near the town of Pleiki. The Air Force was not properly equipped to stage a jungle war, and the airport facilities available to it in South Viet Nam were wholly inadequate. Nonetheless, the Air Force is credited with stemming the growth of Communism in adjacent countries. The Air Force provided heavy and light bombers, which attached specific fixed targets as well as troop formations, and fighters supported troops on the ground, as well as maintaining air cover. US planes were under constant danger from ground-to-air missiles and lost a number of large bombers, as well as fighter planes. Despite its efforts, the war did not proceed successfully, and the US ended its efforts in Viet Nam in 1972. This book is a great history of the Air Force in Viet Nam during this period. It is illustrated with photos of airplanes, US military leaders, and from the battlefields. It contains 110 pages and measures appx 9x6 inches, unopened. The cover is a medium-weight semi-glossy cardstock, and the content pages are a mid-grade paperstock. This item is unused and in mint condition:: there are no rips, tears, writing, markings, spills or smears, and the binding is firmly secure with all pages in place. A great resource for the person interested in the history of the Viet Nam conflict. Pictures sell! Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.300+ Listing Templates! Auctiva gets you noticed!
