Please read more details and history of these amazing postcards below: The Walt Disney World Preview Center in Lake Buena Vista became the first building to open to the public on Walt Disney World property in 1970. As interest grew in the construction of the upcoming “Vacation Kingdom of the World,” Disney made the decision to open a preview center where they could show future Guests firsthand what construction projects were taking place on property. In addition to scaled models and artist renderings for areas of the resort, the preview center was consistently updated with aerial and on the ground photos of construction sites. The preview center not only showcased what Guests could expect to see when the Walt Disney World Resort opened, but it also gave them a taste of the now-renowned service that people would later come to expect while on property. A visit to the preview center was a complete experience and an attraction in itself, with Cast Members nearby to answer questions, video presentations featuring Walt Disney announcing the “Florida Project” years earlier, and even a snack bar and merchandise shop. Inside this merchandise shop, you could purchase these Walt Disney World artist concept postcards. This original set of 9 - 1971 Walt Disney World Pre-Opening 3.75" x 5.75" standard sized postcards feature 9 different artist renderings of future Walt Disney World experiences. The back of each postcard states "Walt Disney World - THE VACATION KINGDOM OF THE WORLD. Opening October, 1971." The Walt Disney World Logo features the Florida Flag above the logo. In 1970, the fronts and backs of these postcards did NOT feature the Florida Flag logo over the now-iconic Walt Disney World logo. This changed in 1971, when the Preview Center sold artist concept postcards featuring the Florida Flag over the Walt Disney World Logo on the fronts and backs of the postcards. This set of Walt Disney World features the Florida Flag over the WDW logo on the fronts and backs of the postcards. This set also includes the second artist rendering of the Polynesian Village Resort. Designed to supplement Disneyland in Anaheim, California, which had opened in 1955, the complex was developed by Walt Disney in the 1960s. "The Florida Project", as it was known, was intended to present a distinct vision with its own diverse set of attractions. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, during the initial planning of the complex. After his death, the company wrestled with the idea of whether to bring the Disney World project to fruition. However, Walt's older brother, Roy, came out of retirement to make sure Walt's biggest dream was realized. Construction started in 1967, with the company instead building a resort similar to Disneyland, abandoning the experimental concepts for a planned community. The Magic Kingdom was the first Disney theme park to open in the complex on October 1, 1971. SUPER RARE POSTCARD SET - ARCHIVAL QUALITY. AUTHENTIC AND ORIGINAL.
