This is a 20" x 24" Original and Vintage oil on canvas by the important Australian painter Constance Macky, 1883-1961. The painting shows a kitchen still life. Signed at upper left and framed in a classic arts and crafts period frame. Macky was connected with the California Shop and the Matthews in San Francisco at the height of the Arts and Crafts period, but is also very much prized in her home country of Australia. Fine condition. The Biography Follows: Constance Lillian Jenkins Macky was born in Melbourne, Australia of Scottish parents on June 29, 1883. At 17 Constance began studying art in her native city at the Nat'l Gallery School where she met artist Spencer Macky. Their courtship continued in Paris where both were on traveling scholarships. Returning to Melbourne in 1912, she gave her first solo exhibition and in that year sailed to California to join her fiancé. They were married in Berkeley upon her arrival. She began teaching with her husband at the California School of Fine Arts in 1917 and was associated with that school for most of her life. Mrs. Macky died in San Francisco on Nov. 17, 1961.
