Description: 7 Vintage Libbey Duratuff Gibraltar 12oz tumbler purple violet amethyst glasses From an estate: these gently-used glasses are clean and clear with signs of use in the form of a few light scratches. The bottoms show a slight shimmer of lime from drying in a rack or dishwasher. There are no chips or cracks and these tumblers are in excellent condition for 20-40 year old glasses. This is the classic 8 panel pattern of heavy Duratuff solid Gibraltar glasses. The 'Duratuff' glass treatment is a super strengthening thermal after-process for "pressed" tumblers and stemware that produces some of the most durable glassware in the industry. These glasses are "stackable" but the way they get scratched is through stacking. That is probably how the few scratches appeared on these tumblers. For the best care, store them in a single level, don't stack or nest them. The particulars: 5" tall3 3/8" diameter top12 oz Libbey introduced the eight-paneled Gibraltar design in clear glass in a catalog in the 1970s and within a year added different colors of glasses to the collection, ending up with about 12 colors. Catalogs of Libbey products from the 1970s show the earliest Gibraltar glasses that appear to have mostly been retired by 2009.
