Description: This Diplomystus is aprox 3 inches long and a younger version of the species Diplomystus dentatus, also called Diplo, are a ray finned type of fish from Green River Fossil Formation, near Kemmerer, WY. They are apart of the Eco scene, ranging about 50 million years ago. The fishes scientific order Order Ellimmichthyiformes, Family Paraclupeidae. Diplomystus dentatus is a ancient relative to the modern day herring fish. Diplomystus fossil fish are also found in areas within China. Fossil specimens range from 0.7 inches to around 26 inches (the larger the fish, the rarer the find). The Diplo is a surface feeder, as indicated by the upturned mouth and is a predator, often found with other fish in their mouth. For further information on this and other fish, I recommend visiting the Fossil Butte online museum. I ship domestically within the United States.
