These bat houses are hand cut and assembled in my backyard workshop right here in Kentucky and each one has the following features. • All exterior joints and seams are caulked to keep out moisture and drafts • All wood used in the construction is 100 % natural. Absolutely no plywood, particle board, or OSB (Oriented Stranded Board, aka “chip board”) is used • Every house is constructed with ¾ inch chamber spacing • Every house is free of fabric and mesh which can entangle and trap the bats • Every house is constructed with the interior surfaces roughened to help the bats cling • Every house has a landing pad • Every house has a sloped roof with overhang to aid in water runoff • Every house has a full width ventilation slot on the lower front side • Constructed from full ¾ Inch thick Southern Yellow Pine • Every house is assembled with ceramic coated screws which will not rust or stain • Every house is hand cut and assembled in my back-yard workshop right here in Kentucky and each one is unique. The house(s) shown in the picture represents the style of house(s) you will receive, not necessarily the actual house(s) you will receive. Exterior Size Three chambers, overall dimensions are approximately 20 inches high x 7 inches wide x 5 inches deep. The weight is approximately 8-9 lbs before packaging for shipment. Instructions For Placement of Your Bat House Select a location that will provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily and facing a south to southeast direction. The bat house should be mounted at least 15 feet above ground level. It can be mounted on a house, garage, barn, wood pole, metal pipe, tree, etc. It should not be hung from a rope or chain. It should be mounted rigidly to maintain it’s orientation to the south or south east direction. Avoid placement above doors, windows, and walkways. If a location with 6 hours of sunlight is not available, the house can be painted with nontoxic black paint on the exterior only. Never paint or stain the interior. After you have your house installed, be patient. Bats locate the houses by sight, so if your house is mounted on a tree in dense foliage, it may take longer for the bats to find it.
