Description: In the period from May to August 2023, the situation at the front changed several times. In May, after the fighting that had been going on since August 2022, the Russians were able to take control of the small Donbas town of Bakhmut. The main role in this was played by the mercenaries of the terrorist organization "Wagner". Already at the beginning of June, the long-awaited offensive of the Armed Forces began in several directions at once, first of all Zaporizhzhia and Berdyansk. But the Russians, who in more than a year were able to form three lines of fortifications covered with minefields, withstood the first blow. Therefore, the offensive rush of the Ukrainian military was thwarted and the war switched to the tactics of small steps -"gnawing through" the Russian defense with the help of artillery and the actions of assault groups and striking the enemy's communications in the rear with the help of long-range weapons.
