Each of these 2 oz Silver coins has a mintage of 1,499 pieces and features a high-relief, rimless design. Coin Highlights: Contains 2 oz of .999 fine Silver. Individually housed in a card with an assay certificate. Each 2 oz coin in this Biblical series is packaged in a gift box reminiscent of the Bible. Included certificate of authenticity lists John 19:1 (ESV) which states: Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him. Obverse: Depicts the Raphael Maklouf likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by the weight, purity and face value. Reverse: Features Jesus' flogging during the trial leading up to His crucifixion. Edge: Laser-etched serial number, from 1 to 1499, which matches the serial number found on the included certificate of authenticity. The artist Dore's rendering of Jesus' flogging during the trial leading up to his crucifixion, though tragic, is not as gruesome looking as many of us expected. History reveals to us that the Romans employed three types of whipping, each with an increasing degree of severity. Level One was a moderate beating for minor offenses. Level Two was a severe flogging for more serious crimes. Finally, Level Three was the most brutal, inhumane form of punishment. It was too horrific to describe with words, let alone visualize.
