Description: Harley Davidson Dash compartment insert for batwing fairing models 2014 and up. I aimed to fix Harley's lame attempt to create a useful cellphone dash compartment. This part will allow the user to add a solid "wall" to install a waterproof USB socket which will allow user to unplug USB cable one handed. I can provide the marine grade twin USB harness for an additional $15 which will include the four needed mounting screws. The hole diameter is 27mm. This is a living prototype, additional suggestions and ideas may be added to future revisions. As further work goes on, price will increase. Installation is fairly simple once you remove the compartment. YouTube or read the service manual if you need to. 1) Install cord through the 27mm hole and through the back of H-D compartment grommet. Rear grommet will need some work to accept the twin USB cord I use. 2) Tighten threaded collar on USB cord. Be careful not to crack it, snug but don't gorilla grip it. 3) Press insert into compartment. Insert was made to fit 1"-2" into compartment. Don't force it, it'll distort the compartment. 4) Ensure insert looks plumb and even, measure and mark depth of insert on outside of compartment. (see pic)5) Mark the thickness of the insert (10mm). Drill your pilot holes in the center of marks using a bit slightly smaller than screws. Drill to the depth of the screw length. ***Pre-drilling all holes is a must!*** 6) Put in screws and tighten. Once again, this isn't steel, no need to torque these down like a madman. You'll end up with a stripped hole and have to drill another.
