Description: 2001 IMAGE SPAWN #104 RAREST NEWSSTAND “NO STICKER” Variant. There are SIX different variants of this NEWSSTAND issue. This is the only variant that doesn’t have a sticker over the barcode. The other 5 newsstand variants have different stickers placed over the barcode which will result in a CGC qualified grade. Variant 1 is the only one that will get blue label CGC universal grade. This one is graded CGC 9.6 white pages which is the HIGHEST GRADED copy on the CGC census with the next lower grade being an 8.0. There are 2 other grades on the census which are qualified due to the sticker over the barcode. A total of 4 graded copies are on the CGC census with this copy being the highest blue label universal. Actual item in pictures for sale. Late 90’s Spawn newsstand editions were literally printed on newspaper grade thin paper. The paper used on the covers were thinner compared to the direct editions making them so much easier to damage. Newsstand variants were not sold to collectors inside comic book retail stores. They were found at actual newsstands, often displayed in spinner racks inside liquor stores, grocery stores etc and were typically printed on lower quality paper and were never bagged and boarded and often abused. Very few newsstand variants survived making them extremely SCARCE in high grade and many unsold newsstand copies were either returned to the publisher or destroyed.
