Description: This listing features two rare Permian amphibian fossils in a rock matrix. The species could be Micromelerpetontidae, Cryptobranchidae, juvenile Sclerocephalus or Melanerpeton. The fossils locality was Rheinland-Pflaz, Germany making these specimens ultra rare since that site has been closed to collecting since the 1980's. The fossils display wonderful preservation with black soft tissue which is carbonized skin rather than an impression. This is the actual soft tissue that managed to fossilize. The matrix measures 9.625" x 10.25" x .5" thick (approximate) and weighs 3.2 lbs. The fossils measure 5.25" long and 5.5" long. The matrix shows signs of repair with areas being held together by glue. The back of the fossil has been sealed for stability. The fossils remain in excellent condition.
