Description: This is a pair of gorgeous early Copeland Spode plates that have a strawberry and ribbon pattern that, so far, I have not been able to identify exactly. Each plate is 8 1/2" in diameter with a pie crust fluted edge. The transferware design incorporates three clusters of strawberries with their flowers around the rim in red and green, with a bluish green ribbon intertwining between the clusters forming three almost Celtic designs in between, along with a delicate grayish vine of leaves. The background of the plates is a creamy white. These are back stamped with an impressed "Copeland B z" which was the Copeland Spode mark used by WT Copeland between 1847 and 1867. They also have impressed date marks, "O 80" which would indicate these date from October 1880. These plates are in exquisite condition with no chips, cracks, discoloration or crazing....not even a scratch, indicating they have been lovingly stored and/or displayed with extreme care for well over 100 years.A beautiful pair of antique plates to gift or treasure.....
