Description: This listing is for a set of the 7 goalie masks released nationally across Canada in 1996-97, issued by McDonalds of Canada. In total, 18 masks were issued… 7 in 1995-96 as prototypes to test the market; 11 more in 1996-97, with 4 being short print Provincial releases and the other 7 released across all of Canada. The 7 mainstream national releases were – Bill Ranford (Bruins), Jocelyn Thibault (Canadiens), Mike Richter (Rangers), Patrick Roy (Avalanche), Felix Potvin (Maple Leafs), Ed Belfour (Blackhawks) and John Vanbiesbrouck (Panthers). The 7 prototypes were – Felix Potvin (Maple Leafs), Ed Belfour (Blackhawks), Kirk McLean (Canucks), Wade Flaherty (Sharks), Guy Hebert (Mighty Ducks), Tim Cheveldae (Jets) and Bill Ranford (Oilers). The 4 Provincial short prints were – Damian Rhodes (Senators) Ottawa; Kirk McLean (Canucks) British Columbia; Curtis Joseph (Oilers) and Trevor Kidd (Flames), Alberta. The test market prototypes are easily identified by having only one NHL shield logo and one NHLPA player logo on the base… one on each side… while the other 11 masks have two of each logo on the base.
