Theshowroom contains only a single newHarley, although there’s plenty ofempty space where others would bedisplayed if Harley dealers weren’t sell-ing nearly every bike they can get thesedays. On the wall are a few jackets andT-shirts from Harley’s MotorClothescollection and the usual chrome acces-sories. In a roped-off corner rests anold Harley hillclimber.Behind the parts counter, there’s aguy sporting a Harley shirt and a fullhead of gray hair. He’s the owner. He’salso the parts manager, the servicemanager, the chief mechanic, the salesmanager and the cashier. But you mightknow him better as the winner of theDaytona 200 in 1961, ’64 and ’65.He’s Roger Reiman, and his shop inthis small northern Illinois town maybe the only place on earth where youcan buy a motorcycle and have it serv-iced by a three-time Daytona cham-pion.Reiman is the biggest celebrity Ke-wanee has ever had. When he returnedhome from his first Daytona victory,after a quick side trip to New York toappear on NBC’s "Today” show, Kew-anee residents greeted him with a pa-rade and gave him a key to the city-When he scored his second Daytonavictory in 1964, then went on to winthe AMA’s Grand National Cham-pionship, the town threw a banquet inhis honor.As a racer, Reiman became a na-tional celebrity. But he never left thelittle town where he grew up; nevergave up his key to the city. When heretired from full-time racing in theearly 1970s, he stayed with the Harleydealership his family had startedecades earlier.
