Rain and lightning pummeled Houston for hours Wednesday. At left, Timothy White, 9, shows the place where lightning struck him in southeast Houston. He was not seriously injured. Above, a transformer rests, horizontally, after lightning toppled it in the 660 block of Main. Although 5.50 inches of rain fell in the Westbury area in southwest Houston, the National Weather Service at Houston Intercontinental Airport officially recorded less than an inch since the rains began.
