Description: Up for sale, a 1972 OMI Dobro Model 33S in exceptional condition, freshly serviced and complete with a hardshell case. Built by (pre-Gibson buyout) OMI under the Dobro brand, this roundneck Dobro features a nickel-plated brass body, a Sunburst-finished maple neck, rosewood fretboard, and a single cone with biscuit bridge. Gaining its "S" designation due to the "Sailboat" motif etched into the back of the instrument, this Dobro boasts a few small palm trees on its face, with a pair of sailboats sailing across the back. Given the body material, this guitar weighs a surprisingly light 8lbs 1oz, and the instrument delivers plenty of warmth and bell-like bark. There’s an overarching sweetness to the sound not always attributable to a metal-bodied Dobro, and it excels at both picked notes and slide work. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this guitar features fresh bronze 12-54 strings and action that's dialed in to be low enough for easy fretting in every register. The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .870" at the 9th. The unbound rosewood fretboard features pearl dot inlay and flawless slender fretwire, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with 14 frets clear of the body. The neck is straight and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut is a new hand-carved piece of bone, measuring 1 3/4" in width. On the headstock, the original Dobro waterslide decal and truss rod cover are intact, and the nickel-plated Pat. Pending Grover Rotomatic tuning machines function reliably. The serial number is stamped on the top headstock edge. The cone is original and a new biscuit bridge has been fitted. The neck has also been recently professionally reset, meeting the body at an ideal angle, viable for decades of future use. The etched graphics on the nickel-plated brass body are visible to the naked eye (difficult to capture under normal studio lighting). Exceedingly clean, cosmetic wear is limited to very faint patina of the plating and just a few light scratches on the body as a whole. The tow-tone Sunburst gloss on the neck profile is clean and smooth. A vintage hardshell case with purple plush interior is included.
