McLaren's racing career—and life—was cut short by a wreck during testing of the McLaren M8D at the Goodwood Circuit. This poster was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his passing. McLaren's name lives on in one of the most successful racing teams in Formula 1. His cars dominated CanAm racing between 1967 and 1972, and have logged top performances at the Indy 500, 24 Hours of Le Mans and 12 Hours of Sebring. According to the convention of the time, his cars should have been a mix of the New Zealand national colors of green, black and silver, but the distinctive papaya color was adopted in 1968, when McLaren had begun to see how Americans publicized and marketed their racing activities with bright paint schemes. Numbered in a limited edition of 1,000.
