Description: 1966 Topps Ed "Eddie" Mathews, Atlanta/Milwaukee Braves. This is card #200 of the vintage 1966 Topps Baseball card set. You will receive the card pictured, please examine photos for condition. This card is not professionally graded, but in my opinion as a long time collector it is in VERY GOOD** condition **see notes Centering is as follows...front: 65/35 left/right; and 75/25 top/bottom. The back is centered 95/5 left/right, with a very subtle angle cut to 98/2; and 75/25 top/bottom, with an angle cut to 85/15. Centering based on vertical front and horizontal back orientation. There is little to no sign of surface wear on the front, as most of the original gloss remains; the color is good. Equally, the back retains original gloss and sharp color. The borders front and back are slightly off white, but this does not detract from the appearance. The edges are very good.Looking at the front, the top two corners are very good. The bottom two corners are dinged, with a subtle feathered touch. NO creases; No smudges; NO wax stains. The front of the card is off-register (the alignment of the different colors when printed). Slightly more noticeable in the diagonal team banner, and bottom name & position banner. Inside the photo, a little more subtle, slightly out of focus along edge of Mathews' cap and area around his eyes. Sufficient positive qualities to be considered VERY GOOD condition. The minor issues with centering on the back and the corner wear hold back this card from a higher (VG-EXC) condition. Eddie Mathews had an amazing career. Together with Henry Aaron, the pair established a new record for most home runs by teammates, exceeding the former record of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Mathews was the only Brave to play in Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta, and was a fierce competitor. He was a solid contributor to the 1957 Milwaukee World Championship team. Although hampered by injuries later in his career, tallied his 500th HR as a member of the Houston Astros, before moving to the Detroit Tigers where he became a clubhouse leader as the Tigers advanced through the 1968 season to a World Series Championship. He finished his career with 2,315 hits and 512 home runs. Later became a coach and Manager for the Braves. The 1966 card here shows a photo taken while with Milwaukee, with the "M" on the cap airbrushed out (early series 1966 cards did not show any Atlanta uniforms yet).
