Description: I bought this bass via a third party about six years ago. I already had a 1966 Precision that was my main gigging bass, but when I heard the backstory and condition I had to have it! The bass was purchased new in 1966 for $309 from a gentlemen who played bass and high-hat in a country duo with his wife, who played piano and sang. They performed around Southern California for decades. He passed away and his wife was very elderly, so their daughter offered the bass up for sale. I made an offer that was accepted. When I opened the case for the first time, it was like a time capsule. The coated nylon flatwounds jumped out at me - maybe not original but certainly close to it. I removed the pickup cover and it looked like there was thirty years of dust under it. I removed the neck for a date stamp and observed "5 SEP66 C." In the accessory part of the case were the pictured items plus a strap of indeterminate age. At that point I was convinced of authenticity. I own four other vintage Fender basses and know well of pickguard shrinkage so I didn't dare remove it because it would be very difficult to fully re-seat the screws. Condition is excellent - there's some small scratches and a small ding I regretfully caused while playing it. The bass only left my house a few times and since I don't play it in favor or my other '66, I've decided to find this beauty a new home. Let me know if you have questions. I'll pack well and ship promptly upon receipt of payment. Thanks for the interest!
