Description: FOR SALE : 1964-1966 SEARS SILVERTONE MODEL 1457 GUITAR AND AMP IN CASE BOTH IN EXCELLENT USED CONDITION. IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THESE GUITARS, THEY ARE EXTREMELY LIGHT (UNDER 6.5 LBS.) AND ARE VERY EASY TO PLAY, WHICH, ALONG WITH THE PRICE ($99.00 WITH THE AMP AND THE CASE) MADE THEM PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS. THERE WERE MANY GOOD PLAYERS WHO GOT THEIR START ON THESE RIGS. SEVERAL FAMOUS PLAYERS HAVE ALSO BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THEM ESPECIALLY FOR ELECTRIC SLIDE BLUES, INCLUDING MICK JAAGER AND RONNIE WOODS OF THE ROLLING STONES AND JIMMY PAGE OF LED ZEPPLIN. THE GUITARS AND AMPS WERE MADE BY NATHAN DANIELS WHO WAS BUILDING GUITARS AND AMPS UNDER THE DANELECTRO NAME. HE WAS ALREADY SELLING SOME GUITARS AND AMPS TO SEARS AND ROEBUCK AND OFFERED THEM THE GUITAR AND AMP IN CASE PACKAGE. DANIEL WAS MAKING GUITARS USING VERY INNOVATIVE CONSTRUCTION TECHNICS AND NEW AND INEXPENSIVE MATERIALS (MASONITE FOR THE TOPS AND BACKS; PINE FOR THE SIDES--COVERED WITH TEXTURED WHITE VINYL AND POPLAR FOR THE NECKS--EVEN SURPLUS CHOME LIPSTICK TUBES FOR THE PICKUPCOVERS. WHILE HE WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE GUITARS FAIRLY CHEAPLY, THEY WERE, IN FACT, MADE TO VERY HIGH STANDARDS ( MUCH HIGHER STANDARDS THAN THE JAPANESE GUITARS OF THE SAME PERIOD) WHICH EXPLAINS WHY SO MANY OF THEM HAVE SURVIVED. THE GUITAR AND AMP ARE IN EXCELLENT WORKING CONDITION. MOST OF THESE GITARS HAVE FAIRLY EXSTENIVE SCRATCHING AND CHIPPING ON THE TOP AND SIDES OF THE HEAD STOCKSTOCK FROM PUTTING THEM IN AND TAKING THEM OUT OF THE CASE. THIS IS BEAUSE THE HARD WOODEN CASE WAS NOT ADEQUATELY PADDED AND NO PADDING WAS PROVIDED BETWEEN THE AMP AND THE HEADSTOCK IN THE CASE. IN ADDTION TO THIS, THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN THE AMP AND THE HEAD STOCK , FOR THE HEADSTOCK AND THAT SIDE OF THE HARD WOODEN CASE TO MAKE CONTACT, IF THE CASE WAS HANDLED ROUGHLY. THIS GUITAR'S HEADSTOCK IS PRISTINE AS IS THE REST OF THE GUITAR. I CAN'T REALLY FIND ANY BUMPS, DINGS, NICKS OR SCRATCHES ANYWHERE ON IT. THE TUNERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE NECK IS STRAIGHT, THE ACTION VERY GOOD AND THE TUNING STABILITY VERY GOOD AS WELL. IN ADDITION, THE PICKUP SELECTOR SWICH AND THE TWO VOLUME/TONE POTS HAVE ALSO BEEN REPLACED. SPEAKING OF THE PICKUP SELECTOR SWITCH, SINCE THE PICKUPS ARE WIRED IN PARALLEL (AS THEY WERE ORIGINALLY,) THE MIDDLE OR BOTH POSITION MEANS THAT THE TWO SINGLE COIL PICKUPS ACT LIKE A HUMBUCKING PICKUP-- IN OTHER WORDS, SLIGHTLY MORE OUTPUT AND LESS HUM, KINDA OF COOL EFFECT. SOME OF THE PHOTOS SHOW SOME DIRT ON THE WHITE VINYL BOTTOM AND SIDES OF THE GUITAR, ONE COULD , I SUPPOSE, CLEAN THE VINYL, BUT SINCE IT WASN'T EXCESSIVE, I FELT IT ADDED TO THE VINTAGE VIBE AND CHOSE TO LEAVE IT AS IS. THE 5 WATT AMP WORKS PROPERLY AND COMES WITH THE FOOT SWITCH FOR THE ONBOARD TREMOLO. THE AMP ALSO HAS TWO INPUTS, A GAIN KNOB, A "SPEED" KNOB FOR THE TREMOLO, A VOLUME KNOB AND A TONE KNOB. I'M NOT SURE IF THE JENSEN "MOD SPEAKER IS ORIGINAL OR A REPLACEMENT, BUT ITS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND SOUNDS GOOD. THE CASE IS IN GOOD CONDITON (ALL THE CATCHES WORK AND THE HANDLE IS ORIGINAL AND WORKS, BUT IT DOES SHOW SIGNS OF WEAR, SOME MINOR STAINING, SOME TEARING OF THE TOLEX COVERING AND SOME MINOR DAMAGE ON THE CORNERS FROM USE, IN OTHERS WORDS, A HARD CASE THAT DID IT'S JOB AND PROTECTED THE GUITAR AND THE AMP. BECAUSE OF THE AMP AND SPEAKER THE CASE IS , HOWEVER, HEAVY. SHIPPING IS VIA UPS GROUND. PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE PHOTOS AND EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS. THIS IS A REAL SURVIVOR. THANKS FOR LOOKING!
