Description: 1963 Tempest Convertible, 195ci Trophy 4, Automatic, with only 25,856 ORIGINAL miles. I bought it to install a Corvette C6 Manual Transaxle and a 421(Real Pontiac), but I am struggling with cutting up a low mileage survivor and have decided to sell. The car is probably 95% original. The guy I purchased from, bought the car from his mother around 2000. He claims his mother only drove the car to the beauty shop and church on Sundays (This might be one story you can believe!). He put only 2-3,000 miles on the car over the next 20 years. I have redone all 4 brakes, installed a dual master cylinder, rebuilt the carb, and a lot of nick-picky items no one will ever see, but had to be done. The paint is original GM lacquer, interior is original and excellent, drivetrain is original. The car has a newer top installed, newer muffler and tailpipe, radial tires and an aftermarket radio with trunk mounted CD player. Glass is excellent. The car is a survivor. Less than 26,000 miles. It drives like a 60 year old car. Manual steering, manual brakes, tiny steering wheel rim, if you're old enough to remember those. Motor cranks, idles and drives like it should. Tranny shifts like it should. Car makes no unusual noises. The tranny and engine have a drip...about normal for both. Tires are good. Brakes work as they should. Top looks great and works as it should. Heater, windshield wipers, radio, lights, etc all work as they should. There is very, very slight surface rust on underneath surfaces...car lived in Ohio until a few years back, but was never driven in winter. Purchased from son of original owner. Typical parking lot dings for that era. One 3" scratch on left fender. One small dent on Left front fender which may can be removed by "paintless dent removal". I doubt you will find many better examples of '63 automotive history unless it is in a collector's collection. As soon as we get a 60 degree day, I will try the power top again, but it worked when I purchased. Other than a power top, there are no other power options. It is a 2-speed Powerglide Transaxle, meaning the transmission is located, in the rear, with the rearend. Pontiac was 36+ years ahead of the Chevrolet Corvette with this feature. This feat gave the Tempest/Lemans cars of the 1961-1963 era an almost 50/50 front to rear weight ratio providing a very balance handling vehicle. The steering wheel is in excellent. No cracks or discoloration. One thing I need to mention, the far right dash pod where a clock would be optioned in, has had something glued to the lens...perhaps a small clock. That lens is not perfect. Other than that issue the dash, gauges, heater controls, etc. are in very good shape. The chrome is not pitted...for that matter none of the chrome...bumpers, door handles, trim, etc, even the original wiper arms, shows any signs of pitting. Weather stripping around the doors, the trunk, where the windows seal to convertible top is all good, maybe not perfect, but very good. the windows work properly and seals are good. Vent windows (60's AC) open and close with no problems and seals are in great condition. Most every hose has been replaced, unless original factory hoses were in satisfactory condition to remain. Brake lines replaced. Brakes redone. Master cylinder replaced with a dual cylinder for safety. Other than the radio/CD player, speaker, dual master cylinder and radial tires the car appears very original.
