As all serious NFL collectors know, Rare Sportsfilms is nationally known for creating the finest picture-quality vintage sports DVD’s ever made! This program contains over an hour of highlights of the 1963 and 1964 AFL Champion Buffalo Bills! The 1963 B & W film covers the big plays and players of nearly every game of the 1963 season, including the tie-breaking Eastern Division playoff game vs the old Boston Patriots played on a cold snowy Sunday in Buffalo. Most AFL experts picked the Bills to win the AFL East in ’63, but a terrible start in September (o-3-1 after four games) eventually cost them the division title. In last place going into October, the Bills played well from then on, despite several crippling injuries. Shown is the play which ended the career of promising 22-year-old rookie halfback Roger Kochman after only eight pro games. Other Bills missing playing time because of injuries were Dick Hudson, Bill Miller and Wray Carlton. Throughout the year QB Jack Kemp hit Elbert Dubenion and Miller with pinpoint passing and young understudy Daryle Lamonica also saw plenty of action. Cookie Gilchrest had a great year and was named AFL MVP for 1963! Throughout the film Bills players are shown in game action: backs Freddie Brown, Wayne Crow and Charlie Ferguson and defensive players Mack Yoho, Willie West and John Tracey among others. Of course, the stars on other teams are covered also including Lance Alworth, Keith Lincoln, Paul Lowe, Cotton Davidson, Clem Daniels, Len Dawson, Chris Burford, George Blanda, Babe Parilli, Art Graham, Gino Cappelletti, Lionel Taylor, and Don Maynard to name a few. One of the oldest known COLOR films on AFL football is the 1964 Buffalo Bills highlights! Titled "Story Of A Champion", the 38-minute film, narrated by the familiar voice of the Bills Van Miller, shows every game of the 1964 season, including the AFL Championship Game at Old War Memorial Stadium! By season's end, there was no doubt which AFL team was the best in the league. Not only did the Bills win their first 9 games in a row, they had the best record in the AFL and handily beat the defending AFL champion San Diego Chargers 20-7 in the AFL Championship Game to win their first title in history! The '64 Bills were the AFL's first great ball-control team. Jack Kemp, a conservative quarterback, had powerful Cookie Gilchrist to hand the ball to, and a stout defensive line made it tough scoring against the Bills. The Bills passed the ball less than other AFL clubs, but when the attack bogged down, young Daryle Lamonica could come off the bench and toss long bombs to either Glenn Bass or Elbert Dubenion. The strong offensive line was anchored by Billy Shaw and Stew Barber. Ron McDole, Jim Dunaway, Tom Sestak and Tom Day made up the best front four in the league. Coach Lou Saban unveiled a rookie Hungarian refugee named Pete Gogolak, an unconventional sidewinding kicker, who scored 102 points and became pro football's first soccer-style placekicker! Along with those Bills already mentioned above, you'll see action shots of others on the team, such as rookie Joe Auer, Al Bemiller, Butch Byrd, Hagood Clarke, George Saimes, Ernie Warlick, Paul Maguire, Harry Jacobs, Bobby Smith, Booker Edgerson, Gene Sykes, Joe O'Donnell, Mike Stratton, Ed Rutkowski and Wray Carlton. Throughout the film, you'll see the stars on other teams playing against the Bills, such as Len Dawson, George Blanda, Dick Wood, Bake Turner, Babe Parilli, Tony Romeo, Gino Cappelletti, Larry Garron, John Hadl, Keith Lincoln, Lance Alworth, Tobin Rote, Tom Flores, Bo Roberson and Art Powell. At the end of the film, you’ll see a special message from young QB Daryle Lamonica urging you to get out and purchase your Bills season tickets for 1965!
