Description: This week I'm offering a variety of cards from non-sport sets of the Fifties and Sixties. Monster and horror movies were big during that period, and various companies issued sets picturing monsters. These sets have remained immensely popular with collectors. Leaf Gum, known for issuing black and white cards with very glossy surfaces, issued a set of 144 cards in 1961, titled "Spook Stories". Unlike the other monster sets of this era, this set used photos taken from the classic horror movies of the 1930's, as well as some photos taken from the highly regarded Hammer horror movies of the late Fifties. The cards featured a silly joke caption on the front and an even sillier joke on the back. The set was a huge hit with eight-year-olds of all ages. The first 72 cards were issued in 1961, anbd the second series of 72 was issued in 1965. These higher numbered cards are slightly tougher to find. This is a lot of 25 different cards from the first series. It includes #3, 6, 7, 10, 12, 14, 15, 22, 25, 29, 31, 38, 40, 41, 51, 52, 53, 57, 59, 62, 65, 68, 69, 70, and 71. The cards vary from very nice to creased and worn, but they're generally in nice shape (see scans for condition). All in all, an attractive example of a Sixties phenomenon. This would be a terrific addition to any collection! Shipping will be discounted for multiple purchases. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
