Formed in 1923, it came under control of the Pennsylvania Railroad and existed as a corporate entity until 1976. While most of its trackage has been abandoned, a small segment is owned and operated by Norfolk Southern. For auction is a rule book dated November 1, 1958 (and reprinted January 1, 1959) entitled "Agreement between the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and Baltimore & Eastern Railroad Company and Employees of the Said Companies of the Crafts or Classes of Locomotive Firemen (Helpers) in Road and Yard Service, Hostlers and Hostler Helpers represented by Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen". This book details rates of pay for employees in passenger, through freight and yard, and local freight service, and for and hostlers/helpers. Tables provide the minimum overtime rates, time and mileage calculations, and weight on drivers of engines in working conditions for steam, electric and diesel engines. The book measures appx 6 x 4 1/2 inches and contains 45 pages. The cover is a pressboard-type stock, and the content pages are a light grade paper. It is in excellent condition and appears to have had little if any use -- there are no rips or tears, no writing or markings, no spills or smears, and the binding is secure with all pages firmly in place. Items from the B&A are seldom found, and this is a great collectible for either the Pennsylvania Railroad or Baltimore-area railroad fan.
