Description: For sale is a very nice 1953 $5 Red Seal U.S. Star Note. The Red Seal Notes are called "United States Notes" because they are currency that was actually issued by the United States and not the Federal Reserve, which is technically a separate entity. So any Red Seal Note was actually issued from the U.S. fiscal budget and not on loan from the Federal Reserve. Red Seal Notes are always fairly scarce because the Treasury would destroy these notes as they made they way back. The only two series years for $5 Red Seal Notes were 1953 & 1963. Star Notes are considered "replacement notes," so when a regular note was destroyed by the Treasury they would replace that note with a Star Note. They get their name obviously by the little star that is right next to the serial number. Star Notes are always far more rare and collectible than regular notes because they are printed in much lower quantities and have smaller serial numbers. Another interesting feature of the 1953 notes is it is the very last year the Notes did not have the motto "In God We Trust" on the reverse like all currency after 1953 have, including modern currency.As you can see from the pics the note is in very good shape, and would be considered average circulated. It still has a lot of crispness to it and the white, green, and red colors are bold and vibrant. It does have minor folds but they are no rips, tears, or major stains.This is an amazing vintage Note great for any currency collection. Thanks!
