Illustrated throughout by Ronald Searle, the English artist and satirical cartoonist who is best remembered as the creator of St Trinian's School. The illustrations were originally made for a film in the 'Poet and Painter' series for the Festival of Britain. 'The Diverting History of John Gilpin' is a comic ballad by the renowned English poet, William Cowper. The ballad follows the story of a man called John Gilpin who rides a runaway horse. CONDITION In the original paper wraps with adhered dust wrapper. Externally, very smart with some shelf wear to the edges and chipping to the spine. Light spotting and age-toning to the panels. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with just the odd spot.
