Description: A CLASSIC CHILDREN'S BOOK AUTHORED AND ILLUSTRATD BY JACK COGGINS (see bio below). FIRST EDITION (presumably) published in 1952 by Random House. There is no date on the title page, but no later edition information on the copyright page. There is a "Christmas 1952" neatly inked inscription on the half title page - see listing photo. This at least dates the publication of the book as being in 1952, the copyright date. The book is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. The front cover laminate has bubbled up a bit, which is similar to all of these books seen online. There is corner wear, light edge wear. There are two smudges/scratches on front free endpaper top (seen in listing photo), and the previous owner gift inscription noted above. There are no further marks, very clean and bright pages, back endpapers pristine. The back cover shows the same laminate bubbling, a bit more heavy than the front board. A buyer comment from the internet: "Jack Coggins and Fletcher Pratt co-authored this 1952 work of speculation into how humanity would reach the Moon. Although many would think this is outdated, the science featured here is mostly solid (or at least as solid as discoveries in the early Fifties allowed). The book features two important extras. First: an introduction by Willy Ley (one of the pioneers of speculation into space travel). Second: excellent pieces of artwork by Coggins; illustrating ideas of how the Moon would be colonized (via early 1950s space technology)." A brief bio of Jack Coggins from Wikipedia: "Jack Banham Coggins (July 10, 1911 – January 30, 2006) was an artist, author, and illustrator. He is known in the United States for his oil paintings, which focused predominantly on marine subjects. He is also known for his books on space travel, which were both authored and illustrated by Coggins. Besides his own works, Coggins also provided illustrations for advertisements and magazine covers and articles. During World War II, he served as an artist and correspondent for YANK magazine, capturing and conveying wartime scenes from the front lines. Over the course of his career, Coggins produced more than 1,000 paintings and taught art classes for 45 years. He retired in May 2001 and died at his home in Pennsylvania in January 2006." BB5
